What a Move to Altadena Has to Offer

Altadena is an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County, California, of roughly 43,000 people. The area grew around irrigation ditches that were developed in the mid-1860s by Benjamin Eaton, a judge who had a vineyard in the area. Some of this land was purchased by brothers John and Fred Woodbury, who built a noted mansion at 2606 North Madison Avenue in 1882, and today, it is on the National Register of Historic Places. The area of Altadena was mostly the Woodburys' land. The name Altadena is a joining of "Alta," meaning "upper" in Spanish, and "Dena," which is short for nearby Pasadena.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a number of millionaires moved into the area, including newspaper moguls William A. Scripps and William Kellogg. Other famous residents included Western writer Zane Grey, who was one of America's best-known authors of the time; medicine entrepreneur and Civil War Col. G. G. Green, who grew wealthy from medication patents; printing magnate Andrew McNally; and McNally's grandson Wallace Neff, who became a famous Southern California architect.

Reviews from california Customers

  • I rated a 9 because of the convenience of scheduling. The movers were accommodating. They were within the time window they had promised. The overall service was good.
  • North American has moved me twice I researched carefully before choosing the first move was perfect and the 2nd was perfect again.
  • Our driver, Hector Zachula, was professional, very thorough and a veteran at this. Members of the crew were also veterans. We were lucky to get experienced guys for packing, loading and delivery.
  • Juana was an excellent coordinator. Jose did a great job overseeing loading and unloading process. One observation: could have used 2 additional men at the unloading end of process.
