Your Rights And Responsibilities

This page outlines some basic information and a glossary of terms you are likely to encounter while planning your move. Your Nationwide representative will provide pamphlets covering these and other topics in complete detail.

A Binding Estimate means you are not required to pay any more than the estimated amount for services included in the estimate. You are required to pay for any additional items or services.

A Non-Binding Estimate gives you a general idea of the cost of the move but is not a price guarantee. The actual cost of your move will be based on published tariff rates. Even if you obtain differing estimates from different movers, the final cost of your move will be based on the actual weight of your shipment and the services supplied.

Nationwide's estimators are thoroughly trained and certified to provide you with an accurate and fair estimate, to review all of your moving options and assist you with cost saving suggestions.

The Order for Service details the terms you and the mover have agreed upon. The Bill of Lading is the contract between you and the moving company. You will sign and receive a copy of it at the time of loading. Do not lose or misplace it. The Inventory is a record of each item you are shipping and the condition it is in. This is a receipt for your belongings. Be sure to read it carefully and verify the accuracy. If an item should happen to be damaged or missing when the shipment is delivered, your ability to recover may depend on the notations you make.

The weight of your shipment is determined by driving the entire moving van on a Certified Public Truck Scale before your shipment is loaded (tare weight). The van is weighed again with your shipment on board (gross weight). The difference between the two is the weight of your goods (net weight).

Valuation - there are different levels of liability protection available to you and you should be aware of the level of coverage provided and the charges for each option. Maximum Value Protection will supply you with full replacement protection of any item if it is lost or destroyed. If an item is damaged, it will be repaired or replaced, whichever is less. Depreciated Value Protection is limited to repairing or replacing an item at its depreciated value, whichever is less. Basic Liability provides reimbursement only at a fixed rate of 60 cents per pound per item. You should consider carefully before electing this option and check with your homeowner's insurance provider to see what if any coverage you may have under your insurance policy.
