HOW YOUR ITEMS WILL BE SHIPPED

Household goods are shipped overseas via ocean or via air. Air, while the fastest option, is the most expensive way to ship your goods. Transferees are advised to ship most of their goods via ocean and send items that will be needed right away via air. To get an idea of how much you can fit into air and ocean containers, we have provided the following guidelines.

AIRFREIGHT

Keep in mind that while the volume of this container is 94.5 cu ft., the packing materials used for your goods will take up between 10 — 15% of the space. These containers can hold on average about 500 lbs. It is advisable to limit and even restrict furniture in an airfreight shipment, sticking to items that will be needed right away as weight will be a key determining factor in shipment cost. This container is roughly the size of a single door coat closet.

OCEAN FREIGHT

The liftvan is the smallest of our ocean freight options and will handle on average about 1200 lbs. in weight. This container is twice the size of the LDN Container. Generally, shipments under 4,000 lbs. will be considered for liftvan containerization.

This container has the capacity to hold 1100 cu ft. internally. It is roughly the size of a single car garage. This will be used to transport furniture, an auto or other household goods, and can handle, on average, 7000 lbs. in weight. Again, any materials used to pack your goods will take up 10 — 15% of space in this container. In addition, the shipment will be secured with a bulkhead — a plywood wall — which is used to brace the shipment preventing any shifting of the items.

This is one of our largest capacity containers for ocean freight. With a capacity of roughly 2200 cu. ft., this container is roughly the size of a full 2-car garage. This is your best option for shipping loads of heavy furniture, an auto or other household items. This container can usually handle on average about 14,000 lbs. in weight. As with all other containers, packing materials will take up 10 — 15% of the internal space and a bulkhead will be used to secure the items.

STORAGE

Storage vaults are capable of handling 2,000 lbs. on average. They are liftvan-like containers, although slightly larger in size. They are usually stored in a stacked fashion as pictured here.
